May Contain Nuts…

Like lots of people in the Blogosphere, we in the Scrapunzel household are slowly moving towards a more ethical way of living. So far we’ve:

  • Switched entirely from shop-bought bread to home-made. About 7 or 8 years ago a friend told me about Chorleywood Process; I broke the bank and bought a breadmaker the following week.
  • Begun growing our own veg. We put our name down for an allotment about 2 years ago; 6 months ago we got our very own little patch of dirt.
  • Changed our shopping/cooking habits. Everything we consume is cooked entirely from scratch.
  • Cut meat out. I was veggie for about a year and a half when I was a teen but fell off the wagon, flirted with the idea of vegetarianism for years and then last year just went ahead and did it. We’ve been entirely meat-free for about 18 months. (I’m not claiming veggie-ethic points here – I’m sure there is some meat that is well-raised, organically fed but in honesty we just can’t afford it).
  • Launched Scrapunzel – Faery Wear made from recycled clothes (there’s a whole heap of info about how much clothing goes into landfill – don’t get me started!).

There’s lots more to do, too. I dream of solar panels and off-grid living, a huge greenhouse full of tomatoes and happy chickens wandering the garden whilst I sew heaps and heaps of recyced Forest Fae jumpers and twirly swirly Faery Coats.

Starting this blog is kind of to help me make sense of what we’re doing (mostly it’s wonderful but just occasionally I feel completely out of my depth). This section, May Contain Nuts, is all about our daily adventures.
